over 3 years ago, casey tucker was thrust into the limelight after 15 years in the shadows. never truly getting the recognition for is detroit influenced and post rave sound in the 90s, for those that knoe reissued some of casey s classic material and unearthed some gems on dat in 2013. fast forward to the current day and a recent treasure trove was uncovered and some fresh dats untouched since the late 90s were discovered! ben promptly bought a dat player on ebay and shipped it to casey s home for the un-dusting to commence. fttk has worked with casey to present another round of authentic material spread across a further three eps. the track carpet dancer has been in demand since the fine balance recordings gained deserved attention. originally featuring as the a side on the very first fine balance ep, it evokes all of the emotions that caseys music can muster. juxtaposition is a slower groovy effort with meandering chords, trademark fizzy percussion and topped off with a lush string finale. whatever comes to mind rounds off the ep with a rolling percussive bassline, delicate arps and smooth sweeping pads.

this is the fourth ep the paris legends dan ghenacia and chris carrier have made together over the last year, and it�s just as fresh as their previous efforts with plenty of bounce, depth and funk. first up on the a-side is �the blue grass�, a deeply sensual cut with a potent low end. therein lies the groove, which is utterly captivating � made to get you writhing with glee, this one is aimed straight at the hips. alongside that sleazy bassline we have jazzy notes, swinging percussion and otherworldly bleeps and chirps. all of which makes it a great intro to this sterling ep. on the flip side, we have �blue stick�, another ridiculously groovy riddim with warped voices floating above a set of crispy beats and a raw undercurrent of emotion. minimal in composition, and the effect is deadly. lastly, to close out the three-tracker, it�s �kind of blues� (can you spot the theme here?!). when it starts off, this one is a stomper with a moody expression. the beats are hefty, the bass morose and the analogue effects strangely cosmic. more twisted vocals are filtered in the background, giving this one its weird hook. the vocal reveals itself in the breakdown midway through before the track bounds on to its finale. dan ghenacia and chris carrier deliver three firebombs, perfect dance floor material with tight grooves and killer production. would you expect anything less?! go get em�

aelfric michael avery has been a self-reliant artist for a long time. the canadian producer has been exploring underground acid and rough, homemade techno since releasing his first material as avery monarch back in 1994. however it wasn�t until more than ten years later that his music would surface again on his own napalm enema label. napalm enema has also carried work by the likes of faltydl, paul blackford and mrs jynx. avery has released just as much music under his acid elf guise, most notably appearing alongside +10 acid crew (jodey kendrick) for the sought-after bruvs acid ep, and now the alias makes a welcome return to vinyl with four essential tracks from the archives. there�s a subdued, hypnotic and delirious quality to the productions on this ep for arma, ranging from the uneasy delay pulses of fetus to the metallic clamour of urban wasteland, but most importantly they�re all injected with a distinctive personality that stands apart from the 303-tweaking masses.

trained in the art of deejay toasting by the legendary dennis alcapone, lester bulllock initially called himself alcapone junior, until maverick record producer lee scratch perry renamed him dillinger in the early 1970s, following his success on a west kingston sound system called smith the weapon, based in the ghetto of payne avenue. perry cut dillingers first dozen tracks, and there was early work for other producers such as prince tony, augustus pablo, enos mcleod and phil pratt, then, dillingers debut album, ready natty dreadie, was a local hit for studio one, but the cb200 set for island catapulted him to international prominence. yet, the dillinger material with the roughest edge was always produced by bunny striker lee, as this lp, answer my question, so amply demonstrates. first issued in the netherlands on the scramble label in 1977, it shows dillinger on fearsome form, his relaxed rhyming toasts tackling sound system matters, the rastafari lifestyle, action movie subplots, the highs and lows of romantic relationships, the need to help the less fortunate, and other burning issues of the day with biting wit and verbal dexterity, all delivered over tough aggrovators rhythms�including an unusual cut of the three piece suit rhythm. go deh! reissued on lp and cd, on cd for the first time ever!

raw minimal techno specialist mono junk is back with a selection of new material on his own dum records. having pioneered key techno sounds as far back as 1990, more than 20 years later the influential finnish artist is still on top of his game. up first is halo, nine minutes of edgy techno with a nervy lead synth snaking around in paranoid fashion. rolling drums set a direct groove in motion below and the whole thing will be brilliantly hypnotic on the dance floor. halo 2 is a hallucinogenic bit of ambient with celestial drones and icy synth prickles making for a tense interlude, then musta peili is all fucked up and scuzzy, study and disrupted. sounding like a slowed-down techno track heard though a freezing snow blizzard, it is masterfully textured. farewell closes out the ep with an intergalactic bit of glassy melodic techno that will have you up on your toes.

the material collated on this third release from heavenly music corporation was composed specifically for st. giga in japan, a satellite broadcast radio station transmitting ethereal audio harmony 24 hours a day. what made this station otherworldly was its programming, motivated by tidal movements, the aquatic ebbs and flows of each day synchronised to the activity and intensity of the music broadcast.

as yse saint laur ant, ant plate (one half of ever productive duo rhythm plate) takes some time out from crafting refined deep house music to indulge his more wayward tendencies. amongst the music coming to light in this intriguing diversion from a prolific artist is the fantastic just because, which comes on like early wagon christ material with a modern production sheen. space is defunct meanwhile slaps down some chugging 80s flavoured grooves, 2106 reaches for the boogie and dont make me think channels a laid back balearic mindset. it s a mixed bag of a record, make no mistake. that s also what makes it marvelous.

new band name, new lp, the former max graef band toured and worked on new music all year. musical progress, and the impression of not enough edge and rawness in a lot of recent music, inspired and motivated a majority of the recording. the band has grown as a unit and wrote a lot of material together this year in late night sessions. during 2 weeks of recording the new songs in the studio the goal was to try all sorts of instruments, amps and effects and be open to any combination of sounds. furthermore, they and engineer lutz fahrenkrog-petersen tried to capture and maintain the raw feeling of the live recordings using almost exclusively analog pedals and racks as well as keeping the editing of the recordings to a minimum. although bands like et cetera (wolfgang dauner), embryo or xhol have heavily infuenced max graef and his band, the result turned out very original ranging from distorted jazz-rock to experimental soul, electronic percussion workouts to free sound experiments and psychedelic rock. with some tracks being around 14 minutes long, it is better to let the music speak for itself though.

de-bons-en-pierre is a project from beau wanzer & maoupa mazzocchetti. beau wanzer spends the majority of his days sifting through paraffin embedded animal tissues and reading old issues of fangoria, occasionally breaking his monotonous routine to record in various fits and bursts. as well as solo material, he is also in numerous projects including streetwalker, mutant beat dance, civil duty, and corporate park. he s released on many labels including, diagonal, l.i.e.s, cititrax, nation, rush hour, and light sounds dark. maoupa mazzocchetti is the pseudonym of florent mazzocchetti, a french producer based in brussels. florent is strictly devoted to a diy mentality around music production and his sound revives the electro-industrial aesthetic of the late 70s and early 80s. hes released notable productions on labels such as unknown precept, prr! prr!, knekelhuis and mannequin records.

halocyan outlines computer musics many future possibilities, while remaining actively mindful of its one and only history. having released material from such luminaries as dosem, paul woodford, oliver ho, extrawelt, and joey beltram - halocyan continues to assert its influence with their next record: a 2-part ep from apollo and r&s affiliate dave angel. founder of rotation records and originally hailing from chelsea, angel is a techno emissary whose intelligent, funk-licked productions have propelled him through a long and illustrious career through which he has consistently branded his own stamp on electronic music whilst also remaining highly relevant to modern listeners. its this that lends him perfectly to a record with halocyan who do what they do best in presenting his incoming ep: a sincerely-rooted collection that comes backed up by label favourite hackman on remix duties. portrait kicks things off with jubilant melodies rippling atop sharp, whetted percussion before minor-key sweeps bleed in and bring with them a degree of pensive tension. a buoyant bass line propels the track from dave angel incoming ep beneath before hackman offers up a deftly swung revision rich with his sturdy subs and idiosyncratic percussive flutters.
